Program Overview

Learn Spanish in one of the most ancient and diverse cities in Spain . . . ¡Granada! Explore the narrow, cobblestoned streets of the former Muslim quarter, the Albaycin, wander the passageways of the Alhambra, or enter the white-washed caves of the Gypsies and experience the passion of a flamenco performance.

Academic Overview

You will study at the prestigious University of Granada, which was founded in 1531. The language department is located in the historic neighborhood known as “El Realejo”. Walking to class you will pass through winding cobblestone streets and hidden plazas. Spanish classes are taught in one of two historic buildings; one of which is a former palace dating from the 16th century. There is a wonderful mix of Spaniards and international students at the university. This unique mix of languages and cultures provides an opportunity outside of the classroom to practice Spanish with both locals and students from around the world. Class sizes are 5 to 12 students per teacher.

Excursions

Explore the exotic Alhambra, the ancient palace of the Sultans, one of the most impressive monuments in the world!

Spend a weekend in the high Sierra Nevada Mountains, stroll around the lost villages of the Moors or trek to the tallest peak on the Iberian Peninsula, El Mulhacén!

Wind down from the mountains of Granada to the deep blue Mediterranean waters of the Costa del Sol (Sun Coast)

Cultural Activities

The wild mountain landscapes of Southern Spain provide the perfect locale for hiking

Granada's historic quarter is known as "El Albaycin", full of exotic Arabic teterías (tea houses)

In the evenings, enjoy the lively flamenco music of the Gypsies as it resonates from the hillside caves of Sacromonte

Housing

All programs include housing with a local host family. Living and sharing your experience abroad with a host family is one of the highlights of studying overseas.
