"[My host family's] house was AMAZING! [My host mom] put in so much effort to get to know us and tell us about life in Spain. She made incredible food and even invited us to go to work with her one day (which was so cool to see!) I am going to miss her and staying in her home, I definitely reccomend her as a host family! While here I not only made lifelong friends in the program, but also in the country. The greatest benefit was learning about the culture and actually living in it, not just doing all the tourist things. I have made so many memories that will last me the rest of my life! After living here I have fallen in love with the country and the way of life. The directors and leaders 100% care about you and your experience. They will give it their all to make sure you enjoy your trip. Don't be afraid to just jump in and start living the Spanish life. Take every chance you can to go on a hike or stay out late and get tapas, you won't regret it and you will make the greatest memories! Just want to say thank you to the program and activity directors!! They went so far above and beyond to make sure that everyone enjoyed their trip! They helped us create travel plans and gave us an amazing experience!! I will never be able to thank them enough for everything they did to make sure we enjoyed our experience here in Spain!" The host family experience was the best part, my time with the family was absolutely incredible. My Mama Tica was beyond amazing and the entire family was so warm and welcoming. I can't imagine having a better home experience. Thank you so much, these nine weeks have been incredible, beyond my wildest dreams." View Less

"These SOL people know what they're doing! This a wonderful and economical program that takes the hard logistics of planning and extensive trip and handles everything so that the student can enjoy the immersion and have a proactive learning environment. Raul and Beatriz, [the onsite directors], love showing their country to students and do so in a fun, professional, and engaging manner. Both were very good to me and went above and beyond to make sure every student had what he or she needed. I appreciate how accommodating and patient both SOL employees and others I encountered through activities and excursions were with those of us still in the learning stages of Spanish. Many thanks to everyone involved that makes SOL such a stellar program. I am very grateful for the experience I had thanks to SOL and I look forward to working with the program again in the future. "The biggest challenge was living in a country on my own that I did not share the same language with. Every day I had to push myself to learn more about the language and become confident enough to speak it to native speakers. However, that was one of my greatest benefits as well! The amount of improvement that my Spanish made within 3 weeks was amazing. I could carry on conversations with native speakers and I didn't think I would be able to do that. Another benefit was the amazing friends that I made. I was lucky enough to have a smaller group of just 15 people which allowed us to really get to know each other. After a week, we felt like we had been friends forever. I made some friendships that I hope will last forever. [...] Be open to everyone and everything around you! It can be scary when you get there but just jump in with both feet because your experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you will surprise yourself." View Less

"I loved [my host mom] and her home! She was extremely welcoming and very patient with me considering my Spanish is not very good. I was really nervous at first about being able to communicate but she very quickly put me at ease and made me feel comfortable speaking. She definitely corrected me if I misspoke but in a very caring way, just wanting to help me learn. Her meals were seriously awesome and she was very considerate if someone expressed a certain dish or ingredient that they weren't fond of. When I got sick she was very caring, like a true mother, and made me tea and food to help my stomach. She made us fantastic hot chocolate when we were homesick. Her home is very clean and comfortable and I never had an issue with anything in the home. Her dogs Coco and Tifón are wonderful and cute and made being away from my pets bearable. [She] definitely opened up her home wonderfully and gave me a better home away from home than I could ever ask for. " View Less

"Future SOL mates need to know that each and every activity/excursion is worth going to. Even the descriptions of the activities don´t do them justice. Spain is such a beautiful country and I find it hard to imagine any better possible excursions. We got a little taste of every aspect of Spain: the beach, the impressive and most beautiful mountain pueblitos, the beautiful Alhambra (one of the most visited sites in all of Europe!), Spanish food tasting and cooking class, Arabic tea and the Arabic baths, tours of the city, cultural performances, learning how to dance Flamenco, and so much more! With the 4 week summer SOL program in Spain, I feel like I´ve gotten more experiences than I ever would have gotten on my own. I´m so happy I had this experience and I will miss it so much! I would suggest that SOL mates pack some good walking shoes, invest in a journal, take time to see the sunset, and take a deep breath, because this will be one of the experiences you´ll be telling stories from for the rest of your life. It may seem scary not knowing who you´re going with or what to expect, but you´ll feel at ease as soon as you step off the plane and meet your SOL mates and directors! SOL isn´t just a program, it´s a family! You just have to believe me and see it for yourself once you arrive... I wouldn´t want to spend my study abroad any other way!!!" View Less

She made sure we were comfortable with everything and she would also make sure that we liked the food. Whenever we asked her about places to go she would recommend us the different places we could see and she would also take us out so we could explore more of Granada. " View Less
