"I loved [my host mom] and her home! She was extremely welcoming and very patient with me considering my Spanish is not very good. I was really nervous at first about being able to communicate but she very quickly put me at ease and made me feel comfortable speaking. She definitely corrected me if I misspoke but in a very caring way, just wanting to help me learn. Her meals were seriously awesome and she was very considerate if someone expressed a certain dish or ingredient that they weren't fond of. When I got sick she was very caring, like a true mother, and made me tea and food to help my stomach. She made us fantastic hot chocolate when we were homesick. Her home is very clean and comfortable and I never had an issue with anything in the home. Her dogs Coco and Tifón are wonderful and cute and made being away from my pets bearable. [She] definitely opened up her home wonderfully and gave me a better home away from home than I could ever ask for. " View Less

"Future SOL mates need to know that each and every activity/excursion is worth going to. Even the descriptions of the activities don´t do them justice. Spain is such a beautiful country and I find it hard to imagine any better possible excursions. We got a little taste of every aspect of Spain: the beach, the impressive and most beautiful mountain pueblitos, the beautiful Alhambra (one of the most visited sites in all of Europe!), Spanish food tasting and cooking class, Arabic tea and the Arabic baths, tours of the city, cultural performances, learning how to dance Flamenco, and so much more! With the 4 week summer SOL program in Spain, I feel like I´ve gotten more experiences than I ever would have gotten on my own. I´m so happy I had this experience and I will miss it so much! I would suggest that SOL mates pack some good walking shoes, invest in a journal, take time to see the sunset, and take a deep breath, because this will be one of the experiences you´ll be telling stories from for the rest of your life. It may seem scary not knowing who you´re going with or what to expect, but you´ll feel at ease as soon as you step off the plane and meet your SOL mates and directors! SOL isn´t just a program, it´s a family! You just have to believe me and see it for yourself once you arrive... I wouldn´t want to spend my study abroad any other way!!!" View Less

Overall I felt like I got close to each one of my host family members. My host mom showed that [she] truly cared for my roommates and me. I also felt like she treated us as if we were her daughters. She made sure we were comfortable with everything and she would also make sure that we liked the food. Whenever we asked her about places to go she would recommend us the different places we could see and she would also take us out so we could explore more of Granada. " View Less

[My host dad] always invites us to join him on his evening walks and teaches us about the history of Granada. He also tells personal stories and loves learning about our family and life in the US. They are warm, kind and caring. They will be missed when I return home but I know I'll always have a home in Granada!" View Less

The activity directors were VERY fun and full of laughter and knowledge! It always felt like a fun experience with them. You will learn A LOT! [My host mom] is amazing and so kind! She goes out of her way to ensure I'm comfortable and happy with my stay accommodations and food preferences. I would HIGHLY recommend her over and over again. If I were to study abroad again with SOL, I would personally ask for her again! She acted like a second mom to me and definitely gave me a well-rounded Spanish experience lifestyle. " View Less

All of the activities and excursions for the whole group really helped me have great experiences with the friends I made without being too overwhelmed. [My onsite directors] Carmen and Gonzalo were amazing and so much fun. They were very inspiring to learn from and get to know. My teachers will forever stay in my memories. Living with my host family has been an unforgettable experience that I am sad to leave. Everything overall was very pleasant for me.This program is amazing. The staff is incredibly helpful, on and off site. Months before coming to Spain, SOL already had made a great first impression on me due to their helpful emails and attentive phone calls. Any worries, doubts, comments, concerns, or suggestions a student needs, SOL can help with and is so patient with their responses too.One of the biggest benefits was my family. I loved my host family and they were very patient in helping me further my Spanish skills. This family is incredibly sweet and caring. My host mom is so easy to understand and is so much fun! She is a huge reason why Granada started to feel like home to me and she is the thing I am going to miss the most when I leave. She started to feel like my mama de España. This family has stolen part of my heart, and part of it will stay in Granada with them. " View Less

The directors went above and beyond any expectations I had for them, and I know they contributed to what made this summer study abroad experiences one of my best ever! [My host mom] is the best host mom in the world! She exceeded all of my expectations about what it would be like to do a homestay in Spain. I not only consider her a host mom now, but also a good friend! The entire study abroad experience itself has been a huge benefit to my life and something that I will never forget! Staying all summer and truly immersing myself in Spanish culture, being exposed to the language and being encouraged to speak and learn Spanish, and the amazing friends that I met here and shared my experience with are a few of the many amazing benefits of studying abroad. The programs are the best choice for students who want to get a lot out of their study abroad experience." View Less
